Welcome Foyle Cycling Club 2008

Operating in the North West of Ireland for the last 5 seasons Foyle Cycling Club flourishes by being run by a group of like minded cycling enthusiasts. In 2008 we will continue in our efforts to promote cycling in this region and will welcome all new members to our ranks, no matter at what level they would like to ride.

As we start the 2008 season our active and enthusiastic committee has once again done its utmost to promote cycling of all kinds in the surrounding region. (check out our calendar for full details, please!)

Our flagship event continues to be the Inishowen 100 and affords cyclists from all over Ireland the opportunity to tackle some of the most challenging and beautiful scenery in all Ireland. We feel that the kudos we have received for this event is well merited and reflects the efforts our organising guru has put in to this event. We would welcome participants from all parts to come and enjoy the I100 in mid-August 2008.

Once again we are running a trip for club members to an Italian cyclosportive. This year we are tackling the Martona des Dolomites, one of the most popular events in Italy with over 8, 000 participants. Our 14 strong party leaves on June 26 for this challenging and exciting event.

Our membership has been augmented in 2008 by the arrival of several cyclists who have some excellent racing pedigrees. These members have been training hard through the winter and FCC colours will be even more prominent at Cycling Ulster races than they were last year.

We will also continue our inter club league with our friends at Roe Valley CC and we hope to go one better than last year where we shared the inter club shield..

STOP PRESS:

The club run continues to be the life blood of any cycling club. FCC club runs leave at 0900 each Saturday and Sunday from the Sports Complex, Buncrana Road, L’Derry. The runs cater for all levels and usually cover distances ranging from 40 to 70 miles. Helmets must be worn and race bikes must be in good, safe working order.

WHY CYCLE

There are many benefits that are available from cycling. Here are just a few!
  • To get or stay fit.
  • To help loose or control weight.
  • To fully enjoy the countryside on our doorsteps
  • To have a bit of fun with a good bunch of people
  • To get out of the house and away from your chores on a Saturday morning! (Some say this is the most important.)

OK, SO IT'S GOOD TO CYCLE, BUT WHY JOIN A CLUB?

There is no better way of 'learning the ropes' than by joining a club.

Experienced members will be able to show you how to ride a bike more efficiently and safely. Many of our members have spent years exploring the vast network of smaller roads that cover our beautiful countryside and new members are bound to learn new routes. They'll pass on tips on maintenance and equipment (and the best places to buy new stuff) and a club is often a good source of second-hand equipment.

You are only one e-mail away from starting a whole new way of life
